Volleyball Recap: Southern Wells Takes a Loss

After flying high against Tri-Central on Monday, Southern Wells came back down to earth. The Raiders lost 3-0 to the Jay County Patriots on Tuesday. If the Raiders were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Patriots when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Jay County scored at least 19 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-21, 25-19.

Abbie Powell paced Southern Wells' offense, picking up 20 kills. Powell got some help from Sydney Alstoft and her 30 assists. Finally, Powell was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high two blocks.

Leading Jay County to victory were Lani Muhlenkamp and Ella Rigby. Muhlenkamp had seven digs and two assists, while Rigby had eight assists and three digs. That's the most assists Rigby has posted since September 6th.

Southern Wells has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-13 record this season. As for Jay County, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Southern Wells didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Woodlan on the 2nd. As for Jay County, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Heritage on the 2nd.
