League recap: Amite stuns Loranger in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Loranger, who took down 28th ranked Loranger, 20-19.

Amite moved up to 147 from 180 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A District 8. The Warriors were able to make move up by besting the Wolves 20-19.

Independence's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Oscar Briggs has thrown for 769 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Davon Steptoe has 18 catches for 307 yards. Shannon Cage leads the league in rushing with 1007 yards.

Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when Loranger and Sumner meet this week. Sammy Messina's team features well-regarded senior Jeryl Brazil while the Cowboys has Jeremy Cutrer, a sought after senior.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Wolves take on Sumner. As it stands, Loranger is in first, while the Cowboys are in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Wolves take on Sumner. Loranger has allowed 110 points this season, while the Cowboys have given up 133. The Wolves allowed 20 points last week as they fell to Amite.

Alden Foster's team and Loranger played the most hotly contested game in 3A District 8 this week, with Alden Foster's team eventually emerging with a 20-19 victory.
