Softball Recap: Mount Vernon Extends Winning Streak to Six

Mount Vernon had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Prairiland Patriots a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won 11 matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Amber Alford looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February.

At the plate, Olivia Baird was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Pope, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Mount Vernon pushed their record up to 18-4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Prairiland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Coming up, Mount Vernon will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Winnsboro at 6:00 p.m. Mount Vernon's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Winnsboro's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Prairiland, they will head out on the road to face off against Rains at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
