Baseball Recap: Bloom Takes a Loss

Bloom was the 17-14 winner over Kankakee when they last played one another on Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Blazing Trojan fell just short of the Kays by a score of 12-11 on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Talen Taverne and Christian Mendoza stepped up to the plate in a big way. Taverne went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Mendoza went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Taverne continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Heladio Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Bloom now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Kankakee, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14.

Coming up, Bloom will host Intrinsic Charter School Downtown Campus at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in the Blazing Trojan's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while the Ravens have been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road. As for Kankakee, they have already played their next game, a 12-0 win against Thornridge on the 5th.
