Volleyball Recap: Highland Comes Up Short

Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to the Portage Indians. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Indians when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

While Highland was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Portage's winning margin in every set. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-22, 26-24.

Kaitlin Smith paced Highland's offense, picking up six kills. Smith got some help from Elena Herrejon and her 13 assists. Hannah Ladewski controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Highland's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Portage, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Highland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Wheeler on the 23rd. As for Portage, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Washington Township on the 23rd.
