Baseball Preview: Amundsen Vikings vs. Niles Notre Dame Dons        
        
		
            
 The Amundsen Vikings are on the road again  on Tuesday to play the Niles Notre Dame Dons at 4:30  p.m. Amundsen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7  runs per game  this season.
 Amundsen will head into Monday's  contest ready to turn things around: they couldn't quite beat Taft on Monday, but the two-run margin was a huge improvement compared to the six-run  loss they were dealt  on Saturday. Amundsen fell just short of Taft by a score of  5-3.
  Henry Holper was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound,   striking out seven batters over  six innings while giving up  four earned  (and one unearned) runs off   six  hits (and not a single walk). Holper has been consistent recently: he hasn't  tossed less than five  strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. Holper was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring a  run while going 1-for-3.
 Holper wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Kael O'Conor, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 1-for-2.
 Meanwhile, Niles Notre Dame has not done well against Deerfield recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way  on Monday. Niles Notre Dame narrowly escaped with a  win as the  team sidled past Deerfield  5-3. The  victory was a breath of fresh air for Niles Notre Dame as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
  Jacob Creeth looked comfortable as he  didn't allow a single  earned run over four innings pitched.
 On the hitting side,  Dominic Holton was  excellent,  scoring a  run and  stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of  Jim Spellman, who  scored a  run while going 2-for-3.
 Amundsen's defeat dropped their record down to 18-11. As for Niles Notre Dame, their record now sits at 12-14.
 Amundsen suffered a grim  11-1 defeat to Niles Notre Dame  in their previous matchup  back in May of 2023. Thankfully for Amundsen,  Jackson Bruno (who   struck out six batters over  six innings while giving up just one earned run off   five  hits) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
