Basketball Game Preview: Old Lyme Wildcats vs. Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils

The Old Lyme Wildcats and the Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row dating back to last season, Old Lyme turned things around against Portland on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Highlanders by a score of 41-31.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Coginchaug Regional, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-41 win over Old Saybrook on Tuesday.

Coginchaug Regional's win came from a few key players Old Lyme will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sophie Farr, who went 11 of 25 on her way to 23 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy Benbow, who posted 13 points and five steals.

Coginchaug Regional smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Things could have been worse for Old Lyme, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 48-34 loss to Coginchaug Regional in their previous meeting back in February. Can Old Lyme avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
