Basketball Recap: Basic Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Basic can now relate to. They came up short against the Legacy Longhorns on Thursday, falling 68-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wolves have suffered since December 20, 2023.

Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mia Frias, who posted 19 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Tatum Meatoga, who had 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Legacy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laila Gines, who went 11-for-15 en route to 29 points along with eight boards and six steals. The dominant performance also gave Gines a new career-high in shooting accuracy (73%). Alabama Nieves was another key player, going 10-for-16 to rack up 25 points and six rebounds.

Basic has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season. As for Legacy, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-7.

Basic has already played their next contest (against Somerset Academy Losee), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Legacy, they and Foothill will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. Legacy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Foothill likes a good challenge.
