Recap: Mountain Vista Golden Eagles vs. Ponderosa Mustangs
After flying high against the Heritage Eagles last Tuesday, the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles came back down to earth. Mountain Vista fell 90-78 to Ponderosa on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mountain Vista came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Ponderosa is ranked 27th).
Cal Baskind and Jacob Hoefs certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Leading Ponderosa to victory were Carson Keach and Noah Wilhelm. Keach scored 19 points along with eight assists and four steals, while Wilhelm scored 21 points along with two steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Keach posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Blake Nuss, who scored ten points.
Mountain Vista's loss dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Ponderosa, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-8.
Mountain Vista won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Dakota Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Mountain Vista is on a four-game streak of home wins, Dakota Ridge a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Ponderosa, they will head out on the road to square off against Legend at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ponderosa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday.
