Football Game Preview: Guyer Wildcats vs. Southlake Carroll Dragons

The Guyer Wildcats will face off against the Southlake Carroll Dragons at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Guyer comes in on ten and Southlake Carroll on 13.

Guyer is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Byron Nelson 24-21. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Bobcat since October 23, 2015.

Guyer got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carter Morgan out in front who rushed for 92 yards, and also threw for 119 yards on 13 of 21 attempts. That's the most rushing yards Morgan has posted since back in September. Another back making a difference was Kaedyn Cobbs, who gained 109 total yards.

On Friday fans watched as two of the best teams in the nation hit the field. Southlake Carroll took down Prosper 49-31.

Southlake Carroll's win came from a few key players Guyer will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Angelo Renda, who threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns while completing 86.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 72 yards. Brock Boyd was another key pass catcher, picking up 126 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Guyer's win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Southlake Carroll, their victory bumped their record up to 13-0.

Guyer couldn't quite get it done against Southlake Carroll in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 as they fell 56-45. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Renda, who rushed for 161 yards and one TD on only 15 carries, and also threw for 105 yards and one touchdown. Now that the Wildcats know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
