Basketball Recap: Palmetto Falls Short of Doral Academy in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Palmetto can now relate to. They took a blow against the Doral Academy Firebirds on Thursday, falling 87-28. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Firebirds are ranked seventh).

Despite the loss, Palmetto still got an impressive performance from Alessandra Falcon, who went 7-for-11 on her way to 16 points and five boards. Thanks to that strong game, Falcon now owns an excellent 46% field goal percentage.

Doral Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stephanie Vega, who went 8-for-11 en route to 17 points in addition to five assists and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Vega a new career-high in shooting accuracy (73%). Another player making a difference was Victoria Valle, who went 8-for-13 to rack up 16 points and five steals.

Palmetto has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. The win was the fifth in a row for Doral Academy, bringing their record for this year to 19-7.

Palmetto does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Doral Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-30 victory against Western on the 18th.
