Softball Recap: Wellsboro Comes Up Short

Wellsboro fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Troy on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 9-8.

Ady Frantz was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out 16 batters over 8.1 innings while giving up eight earned runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.

Wellsboro is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7. As for Troy, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Looking ahead, Wellsboro will square off against Hughesville at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Troy, they will face off against Midd-West at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
