Softball Game Preview: Franklin Pierce Cardinals vs. Foss Falcons

Franklin Pierce is a perfect 10-0 against Foss since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cardinals will be playing at home against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Franklin Pierce knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Foss likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Franklin Pierce made easy work of Fife and carried off a 14-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won five contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Kiley Sledge made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Sledge was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Sledge is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leila Kennach, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.7 RBI per game. Another player making a difference was Katrina Proby, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Franklin Pierce was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Foss' offense. They came up short against Orting on Monday, falling 22-0. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Franklin Pierce's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Foss, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Franklin Pierce took their victory against Foss when the teams last played on April 1st by a conclusive 23-2 score. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
