Recap: Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy Crusaders vs. Lake Lure Classical Academy Raptors
This season hasn't been kind to the Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy Crusaders, who are still winless after their eighth game. They were beaten by Lake Lure Classical Academy 83-22 on Tuesday. The final score was a far cry from the score of their previous head-to-head, which saw the teams combine for zero points.
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josiah Whitmire, who scored 11 points along with five steals. That was a full 50% of Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathon Gee, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake Lure Classical Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elijah Hill-Moore, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hill-Moore has scored all season. Da'Zirus Watkins was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-8. As for Lake Lure Classical Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-2.
Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy will look to defend their home court on Friday against Challenger at 4:30 p.m. Hopefully Challenger focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Tuesday. As for Lake Lure Classical Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Veritas Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Veritas Christian Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
