Football Recap: Amplus Academy's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pinecrest Academy Cadence, Amplus Academy was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Desert Pines Jaguars by a score of 28-18. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Archers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Ashley Galvis continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 120 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also throwing for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Tatianna Kanoa, who picked up 37 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Amplus Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 243 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Amplus Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Mariel Martinez, Olivia Loveland, Galvis, and Gabriella Loveland picked up one apiece. What's more, Gabriella also racked up two defended passes, the most she's had since back in December of 2024.

Amplus Academy's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-7. As for Desert Pines, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Amplus Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 27-6 loss against Sierra Vista on the 24th. As for Desert Pines, they will welcome Arbor View at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Arbor View will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Desert Pines surely won't give up without a fight.
