Football Recap: Cornerstone Christian Wins High-Profile Game Against Tuscaloosa Christian

Cornerstone Christian faced Tuscaloosa Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Eagles managed a 49-44 victory over the Warriors. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jess Nelson produced another solid effort rushing for 287 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 17.9 yards per carry. Those five rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Harrison, who gained 111 total yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cornerstone Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 376 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Another reason for the win was Cornerstone Christian's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Harrison, James Bush, and Sam West, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Cornerstone Christian's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Tuscaloosa Christian, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.
