Baseball Recap: Berea Comes Up Short

The matchup between Berea and Estill County on Thursday hardly resembled the 4-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Pirates came up short against the Engineers, falling 16-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Engineers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 last Friday.

Berea got a good showing from Chris Sowers, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The Pirates are 3-1 when Sowers allows one or fewer earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Berea saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Campbell, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Aiden Huston also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Berea's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Estill County, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berea will challenge Somerset Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Estill County, they will take on Rockcastle County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
