Softball Recap: Cony Comes Up Short

Cony had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-5 to make it four. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dirigo Cougars. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Rams couldn't push the score so high this time.

Abby Brown was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

As for Dirigo, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.4 runs this season.

On Dirigo's side, Leah Turnbull spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. Turnbull has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Abby Luczynski, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Cony will head out to square off against Winthrop at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Ramblers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.2 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Dirigo, they will square off against Mount Abram at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Roadrunners have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.43 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
