Football Recap: Akins Comes Up Short

Akins was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Austin Maroons, falling 33-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 49-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Austin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alijah Jablon out in front who rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries, and also threw for 117 yards and one TD on only nine passes. Those 117 passing yards gave Jablon a new career-high. Austin also got a significant boost from Caleb DeLeon, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.

Akins' defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Austin, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6.

Coincidentally, Akins and Austin will both be playing Bowie the next time they take the field. The Eagles will host the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Maroons will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on the 31st.
