Softball Recap: Springfield Gets the Win

Springfield proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Rossview Hawks. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-5 back in March.

Makenzie Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brooklyn Richardson was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Springfield's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-10-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Rossview, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Springfield will take on Pope John Paul II at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rossview, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Northeast at 5:30 p.m.
