Baseball Game Preview: Gardendale Rockets vs. Hueytown Golden Gophers

Gardendale hasn't had much luck against Hueytown recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Rockets will take on the Golden Gophers at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Gardendale comes in on four and Hueytown on 12.

Gardendale can't be too worried about heading out to take on Hueytown: they just beat Homewood at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Rockets came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 6-1 on Friday.

Meanwhile, Hueytown made easy work of Ramsay on Monday and carried off a 9-2 victory. Considering the Golden Gophers have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Hueytown pushed their record up to 22-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gardendale, their win bumped their record up to 15-9-1.

Gardendale skirted past Hueytown 2-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
