Softball Recap: Avery Libby's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Washington Academy over Bucksport

Washington Academy was the 2-1 winner over Bucksport when they last played one another on Thursday, but their luck changed this time around. The Raiders wound up with the same score they had in their last game (2-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

Bella Cirone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Washington Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Libby, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Washington Academy has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bucksport, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington Academy will face off against Calais at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Raiders are facing the Blue Devils at the right time seeing as the Blue Devils are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Bucksport, they will challenge Searsport at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
