Perth Amboy is 1-6 against Woodbridge since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Barrons at 6:00 p.m. Perth Amboy has given up an average of 38.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Perth Amboy is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Colonia on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Panthers were beaten by the Patriots 49-18. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Patriots are ranked 113th).
Despite their defeat, Perth Amboy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Izyk Gordon, who rushed for 25 yards and one score, and also picked up 50 receiving yards, was perhaps the best of all. Gordon was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 50 yards.
Meanwhile, Woodbridge put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 27-20 win over Linden.
Woodbridge's win came from a few key players Perth Amboy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dylan Stephen, who threw for 65 yards and a pair of TDs on only six passes, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Joshua Allen handled things on the ground, rushing for 80 yards.
Woodbridge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Allen, Kyle Campos, and Joseph Santiago Jr picked up one apiece. Woodbridge received some extra help from Emilio Ruiz, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Woodbridge's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Perth Amboy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Perth Amboy took a serious blow against Woodbridge in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 35-0. Thankfully for the Panthers, Shamar Wells (who rushed for 167 yards and three scores on only 15 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
