Football Recap: Burkburnett Drops Highest Score of Season Against Bridgeport

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Burkburnett). They strolled past the Bridgeport Bulls with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 42-25. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Bulls recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Burkburnett got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brody Boyd out in front who threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt. The dominant performance also gave Boyd a new career-high in passer rating (142.3). Luke Kirkpatrick helped Boyd out on the ground, rushing for 112 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries.

Burkburnett didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Riley Morgan.

Burkburnett's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Bridgeport, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Burkburnett will head out to square off against Mineral Wells at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Rams' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.67 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Bridgeport, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Brock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulls' defense better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 41.3 points per game this season.
