Softball Recap: Briarcrest Christian Takes a Loss

Briarcrest Christian had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-22 to make it seven. They lost 16-1 to the St. Benedict at Auburndale Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-1 back in March.

Briarcrest Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Jones, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.

As for St. Benedict at Auburndale, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-5. Considering they have won 14 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On St. Benedict at Auburndale's side, Madison Young was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Young has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Olivia Evans was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Khloe Spence also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

While Briarcrest Christian had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
