Recap: Dunbar Crimson Tide vs. Banneker Bulldogs
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Dunbar Crimson Tide ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Banneker 52-49. The win was just what Dunbar needed coming off of a 87-45 defeat in their prior match.
Leading Dunbar to victory were D'Mitric Starke and Jordan Russell. Starke scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Russell dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Phillip Crowell, who scored six points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Banneker lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeremiah Shelton. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Shelton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Justin Cave, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Dunbar has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Banneker, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.
Dunbar will be playing in front of their home fans against Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Banneker, they will head out on the road to challenge DC International at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
