Baseball Recap: West Ottawa Beats Holland for Their Third Straight Victory

West Ottawa proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 16) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Holland Dutch, sneaking past 3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Solomon Wegmeyer tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, West Ottawa's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Trevyn Bethke, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

West Ottawa pushed their record up to 16-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Holland, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-14.

West Ottawa will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dutch: the pair will be back at it again later today.
