Baseball Recap: Three Straight Road Victories for Maple River

Maple River had won three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 9-5 to make it four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Minnesota Valley Lutheran Chargers a 1-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won four in a row.

The result came thanks to Caleb Thompson's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maple River saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Walters, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Those two hits gave Walters a new career-high.

As for Minnesota Valley Lutheran, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by just one run.

On Minnesota Valley Lutheran's side, Joshua Vander Plas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits.

Coming up, Maple River will square off against New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Minnesota Valley Lutheran, they are taking a road trip to square off against Sleepy Eye at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
