Softball Game Preview: Gardena Panthers vs. Narbonne Gauchos

The Gardena Panthers will venture away from home to challenge the Narbonne Gauchos at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Gardena has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 3.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Gardena's offense. They came up short against San Pedro on Thursday, falling 17-0.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Narbonne made sure to put some runs up on the board against Jefferson on Friday. The Gauchos were the clear victors by a 20-7 margin over the Democrats. The result was nothing new for the Gauchos, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Cheyenne Bennett and Neyra Avila did most of the damage at the plate: Bennett got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Avila went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Avila has posted since back in March. Delilah Celio was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Narbonne hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson struck out six times.

Gardena's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Narbonne, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 15-7.

Gardena suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Narbonne when the teams last played back in April. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
