Football Recap: Thornwood Skates Past Thornridge with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Thornwood). They blew past the Thornridge Falcons, posting a 64-0 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Thunderbirds, who have now won four contests in a row.

Malik Clark had a dynamite game, rushing for 70 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Zion Walker made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Thornwood proved: they limited Thornridge to a paltry 0.2 yards per carry. While one picked up at least four total tackles, Julius McDavis stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks and made four total tackles. Thornwood's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.85 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 7.97 on average over their last five games.

Thornwood's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. McDavis was especially locked on to Thornridge's QB and sacked him twice. Kenneth Scott got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Thornwood now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Thornridge, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, Thornwood will face off against Normal West at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Thunderbirds will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least 31 points in their last four games. Thornridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
