Baseball Recap: Village Tech Sets Scoring Season-High Against Madison

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Village Tech). They never let the Madison Trojans get on the board and left with a 28-0 victory on Friday. With that win, the Viper Squid brought their scoring average up to 7.7 runs per game.

Angel Ontiveros made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Village Tech is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-7 otherwise. Ontiveros was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Jesse Martinez was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Sotelo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Village Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory was the third in a row for Village Tech, bringing their record up to 4-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Madison, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Village Tech will be playing in front of their home fans against Trinity Leadership at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Madison will be paying especially close attention to the Viper Squid's contest: after the Viper Squid faces off against the Tigers, they'll take on Madison again at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
