The Linfield Christian Lions will venture away from home to square off against the Sultana Sultans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, Linfield Christian made easy work of Woodcrest Christian and carried off a 15-5 win. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Royals recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Presley Sloniker made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Sloniker was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charli Calas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Julia Preston was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Linfield Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Sultana entered their tilt with Garey on Tuesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 14-3 win. That looming 14-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Sultans yet this season.
Avery Rodriguez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabel Avalos, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.
Sultana's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Linfield Christian, their record now sits at 8-1.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Linfield Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .449. However, it's not like Sultana struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Linfield Christian skirted past Sultana 7-6 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Linfield Christian since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
