Basketball Recap: Del Norte Comes Up Short

Del Norte suffered their biggest defeat since February 17, 2024 on Friday. They took a blow against the Sanford Mustangs, falling 75-46. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 105th).

Del Norte's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Noah Bailey, who went 7-for-11 on his way to 16 points, and Kingston Wilcox, who went 5-for-8 en route to 16 points and five rebounds. Bailey has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.

Ben Sittler continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sanford, putting up 18 points in addition to seven assists and four steals. The dominant performance gave Sittler a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Colter Canty, who posted 13 points and six boards.

Del Norte's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Sanford, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-4.

Del Norte wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-29 victory against South Park on the 15th. As for Sanford, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-48 loss against Pagosa Springs on the 21st.
