Fairmont Senior is a perfect 8-0 against Preston since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Polar Bears will welcome the Knights at 5:30 p.m. Fairmont Senior is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Last Wednesday, Fairmont Senior was able to grind out a solid win over East Fairmont, taking the game 8-3.
Bigelow Trevor was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Martin, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Preston narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past North Marion 6-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.
Ayden Ward spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, Preston let Wyatt Moyer and Bryson McNew run wild. Moyer scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while McNew scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Moyer has become a key player for Preston: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cooper Thaler, who scored a run and stole a base.
Fairmont Senior's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Preston, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fairmont Senior has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Preston struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fairmont Senior came out on top in a nail-biter against Preston in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Polar Bears repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
