Softball Game Preview: Steele Canyon Cougars vs. Santana Sultans

The Steele Canyon Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Santana Sultans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Steele Canyon is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Steele Canyon couldn't beat El Capitan on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Cougars fell 11-7 to the Vaqueros.

Belle Will and Isabella Azevedo did some serious damage despite the final result: Will went 3-for-4 with one triple and one RBI, while Azevedo got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Ily Barclay was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Santana got themselves on the board against Calexico on Monday, but Calexico never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Sultans have won six games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Kaylee Lindahl, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Hailee Powell also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Santana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Santana and bumps their season record up to 12-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Steele Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11-1.

Steele Canyon skirted past Santana 6-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
