Preview: Wooster Colts vs. South Tahoe Vikings

The Wooster Colts on the road again on Wednesday and play against the South Tahoe Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Even though Wooster has not done well against McQueen recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way back in December of 2023. Wooster sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-34 victory over McQueen. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Wooster has posted yet this season.

South Tahoe posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They breezed by Hug on the road to the tune of 60-16. Given South Tahoe's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 31st in California, while Hug is ranked 98th in Nevada), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Tahoe can attribute much of their success to Ava Wolfe, who scored 18 points along with six steals and two blocks, and Campbell Mathews, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Mathews has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Avery Long, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and three steals.

Wooster's record is now 2-8. As for South Tahoe, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Wooster and South Tahoe were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but Wooster came up empty-handed after a 44-43 defeat. Thankfully for Wooster, Ivy Gonzalez (who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
