Preview: Spackenkill Spartans vs. Ellenville Blue Devils
Two dominant guards in Blythe Mcquade and Nevaeh Ramos are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Spackenkill Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Ellenville Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Spackenkill is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Spackenkill was the victim of a tough 52-31 loss at the hands of Saugerties. While losing is never fun, Spackenkill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 417th, while Saugerties is ranked 143rd).
Marlena Delaurentis put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Ellenville's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 51-26 defeat at the hands of Onteora. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ellenville has scored all season.
Spackenkill has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Ellenville, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-11.
Spackenkill beat Ellenville 59-48 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Ramos, who scored 28 points. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Spackenkill still be able to contain Ramos? There's only one way to find out.
