Softball Recap: Columbus Cardinals vs. Poynette Pumas
Columbus extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-11. They came up short against the Poynette Pumas, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pumas this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 back in April.
As for Poynette, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.
For Poynette's part, not much got past Pip Lapacek, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Columbus off the board. Lapacek has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Livi Mclean was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Mya Conner was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Columbus will challenge Waupun at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Poynette, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-0 victory against Westfield Area on the 8th.
