Baseball Recap: Hancock County Takes a Loss

Hancock County extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 6-15 in the process. They came up short against the Washburn Pirates, falling 12-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 16-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Washburn, their record now sits at 10-8-1. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

For Washburn's part, Riley Munsey made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Munsey has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Washburn got a big performance out of Landry Coffey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one double. Coffey is becoming a predictor of the Pirates' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was David Bailey, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

While Hancock County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Tuesday.
