Baseball Recap: Atchison Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Atchison won the last time they faced Wyandotte and things went their way on Thursday too. The Phoenix were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Bulldogs. The result was nothing new for the Phoenix, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Leighton Boldridge made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Boldridge was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kolten Bonnel and Hank Harris did most of the damage at the plate: Bonnel went 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Harris went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Yogi Purdy, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Atchison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wyandotte only posted an OBP of .250.

Atchison pushed their record up to 14-0-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Wyandotte, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Atchison will look to defend their home field on Monday against Atchison-Maur Hill-Mount Academy. The Ravens will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Phoenix surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wyandotte, they will head out to face off against Sumner Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
