Shawn Lopez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Nunez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Lake Worth Christian got the win against Palm Beach Lakes on Thursday by a conclusive 16-4. Considering the Defenders have won five matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Mia Kruspe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Lake Worth Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Teegan Summerill, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Kevin Ambroise was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Leonard's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Lake Worth Christian, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Leonard has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lake Worth Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Leonard skirted past Lake Worth Christian 10-8 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Defenders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
