Basketball Game Preview: Dunellen Destroyers vs. Calvary Christian Lions

The Dunellen Destroyers will challenge the Calvary Christian Lions at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Dunellen was able to grind out a solid victory over Keyport, taking the game 28-21.

Dunellen's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Rose Ciccolella, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds, and Fabiana Ames Castillo, who posted ten points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Those 11 rebounds gave Ciccolella a new career-high. Fernanda Ames Castillo also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Calvary Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Veritas Christian Academy, sneaking past 37-34. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with Veritas Christian Academy: they've now won three in a row.

Dunellen's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15. As for Calvary Christian, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2.

Dunellen was able to grind out a solid victory over Calvary Christian in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 32-21. Does Dunellen have another victory up their sleeve, or will Calvary Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
