Baseball Recap: Eastern Montgomery Has No Trouble Against Giles

The Eastern Montgomery Mustangs got the win against the Giles Spartans on Monday by a conclusive 10-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Austin Tate and Maze Cox were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Tate pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Cox tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, Tate gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Tate scored three runs while going 4-for-4, while Cox went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Eastern Montgomery let Mason Phoenix and Coltin Conner run wild. Phoenix went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Conner scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two hits gave Phoenix a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Sutphin, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Eastern Montgomery was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Giles only posted a batting average of .222.

Eastern Montgomery's record now sits at 2-0-1. As for Giles, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern Montgomery will challenge Roanoke Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Roanoke Catholic has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.6 runs per game on average), something Eastern Montgomery will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Giles, they will face off against Auburn at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Auburn's pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so Giles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
