The Shelbyville Golden Bears will head out to take on the Yorktown Tigers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Shelbyville barely beat Delta the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Golden Bears blew past the Eagles 18-3 on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Golden Bears as they're now sitting on three straight.
Shelbyville got a massive performance out of Anna Shearer, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Shearer has posted over her last 11 matchups. Another player making a difference was Destiney Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
Shelbyville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yorktown). They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Monroe Central on Friday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Yorktown let Danae Caldwell and Olivia Jaromin run wild. Caldwell fired off two home runs and one stolen base while going 2-for-3, while Jaromin went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Anna Rinker also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Shelbyville's record now sits at 7-5. As for Yorktown, their record is now 4-1.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Shelbyville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've averaged .525. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Shelbyville's way against Yorktown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Shelbyville made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
