Volleyball Game Preview: Ridgefield Tigers vs. Darien Blue Wave

The Ridgefield Tigers will head out to take on the Darien Blue Wave at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Ridgefield won the last time they faced Ludlowe, and Adam Swiergosz did his part to make sure it happened again. The Tigers blew past the Falcons 3-0 on Wednesday with plenty of help from Swiergosz, who had five digs and two aces. He is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 17 or more in each of the last six games he's played.

Ridgefield not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Ludlowe between 17 and 20 points across their sets. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-17, 25-20.

Meanwhile, Darien made easy work of Bridgeport Central on Tuesday and carried off a 3-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Wave.

Darien was especially dominant in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-12.

The win got Ridgefield back to even at 6-6. As for Darien, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's game: Ridgefield has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Darien struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Ridgefield was able to grind out a solid win over Darien when the teams last played back in June of 2024, winning 3-1. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Blue Wave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
