Baseball Game Preview: Tri Titans vs. South Decatur Cougars

The Tri Titans will head out on the road to square off against the South Decatur Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Decatur took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Tri, who comes in off a win.

On Saturday, Tri beat Purdue Polytechnic 11-7. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Titans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, South Decatur started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against South Ripley. They came up short against the Raiders on Friday, falling 23-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered since April 15th.

South Decatur saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Corbin Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Garrett Huckleberry also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

South Decatur's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Tri, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-14-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tri has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Decatur struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Tri took their victory against South Decatur in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 12-1 score. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
