Softball Recap: Pender Victorious

While Pender's victory against Fairmont wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pender Patriots won by a run and slipped past the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since April 15, 2024.

Alyna Rooks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Charleigh Rivenbark was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Katie Iddings was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Pender and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fairmont, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Pender will take on South Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pender is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Fairmont, they will welcome Red Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
