Basketball Recap: Mcdonald County Extends Winning Streak to Five

McDonald County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They walked away with a 58-50 win over the Cassville Wildcats. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

McDonald County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dakota O'Brien led the charge by dropping a double-double with 18 points and 15 boards. O'Brien's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Carlie Martin was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to six assists and four steals.

McDonald County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

McDonald County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points over those games. As for Cassville, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.

Looking ahead, McDonald County will challenge Branson at 7:30 p.m. on February 25th. As for Cassville, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
