Preview: Caney Creek Panthers vs. New Caney Eagles
Caney Creek is 0-5 against New Caney since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Caney Creek Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the New Caney Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Caney Creek comes in on a streak of failing to score more than nine points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Caney Creek fell victim to Oak Ridge's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the War Eagles 56-0. While losing is never fun, Caney Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 597th, while Oak Ridge is ranked 179th).
Meanwhile, New Caney came up short against College Park on Friday and fell 34-27.
Hunter Taylor put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Taylor was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards. Another player making a difference was David Stewart, who rushed for 118 yards.
Caney Creek's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for New Caney, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5.
Caney Creek might still be hurting after the 41-21 defeat they got from New Caney in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Caney Creek, Kedrick Reescano (who rushed for 163 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
