Guilford came tearing into Friday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 68-52 victory over the Freeport Pretzels. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Pretzels are ranked 392nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Freeport still got an impressive performance from Kazion Morehead, who posted 17 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Kal-El Sims was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Guilford pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Freeport, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Guilford will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Belvidere North at 7:15 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Freeport and Pekin will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
